lyrics
I give my soul to the people
I give my soul to the people
I give my soul to the people
I give my soul
I share my soul with the people
I share my soul with the people
I share my soul with the people
I share my soul
My mind is stranded, surrounded by metaphorical puns
I live through melody, memories and I melt in the sun
Shouts to my people, ‘cause they know how it’s done
Pen to the paper, catch you later – and before it’s begun,
I am the greater instigator, the machine to the gun,
I write it back to the front, right to the left like Levant
And you pronounce me bizarre, there’s something missing
Inject it in these bars, I let them channel my vision,
(And so, you) Idealise me like a planet, see me through the system
The ones who understand, they always listen
I’m echoing myself, a comet coming from a distance,
The sun, the moon, the stars I watch them glisten,
The sum and my division manifest in poems written,
I am one among a hundred million more, I am an atom to the core
It means, for instance, I have seen this place before
My body’s been divorced and now my soul is a metaphor
For being prisoner at war with the whole
And with this letter I let it remind you
Words will always find you, but never bind you
Like paperback, monster on the track
But my muscle relaxed, I’m tryna check my stash
I’m sure I’m where it’s at, I’m never coming back
Just like you, so sure about my place got nothing to lose
And when they ask you how I did it let this track be the clue
It’s the truth, no confusion, I built the illusion,
The logic refuting what they say…
I give my soul to the people
I give my soul to the people
I give my soul to the people
I give my soul
I share my soul with the people
I share my soul with the people
I share my soul with the people
I share my soul

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
